Localisation involves translating websites, software, online documentation, etc., into the language of a specific target audience. It is also concerned with ensuring that a product’s content, style, graphics, and cultural conventions are appropriate to the country and language in which
it is to be used.

The CLDR (Common Locale Data Repository) now include 54 new African locales thanks to the efforts of the ANLoc locales project. This contribution was released as part of Unicode CLDR version 1.8 and dramatically changes the landscape for African languages.

Friedel Wolff, the lead of the ANLoc tools project, represented ANLoc at the CNGL (Centre for Next Generation Localisation) in Ireland. You can view his presentations on ANLoc and the tools project.

Solomon and Friedel are meeting in Limerick to work on a manual for Amharic localisers. The African Network for Localisation released a Northern Sotho Localisation Manual which has already been used in training. We hope that a manual for Amharic can be a great help for localisers and localisation trainers.
